According to data from MoneySavingExpert.com, energy bills are set to rise by 80% from October 2022 – that’s around £1,578 a year for 24 million households in the UK.
At a time where the cost of living is already high, it can be hard to know what to do to save money. Utilita, a Hampshire based energy firm, have put together some information to help.
Research from Utilita found that over half (52%) of households in the UK don’t know which of their kitchen appliances cost the most to run, even though most are spending around 43 minutes each day cooking. Around 42% of those asked admitted to using the oven by default for cooking their meals.

Utilita have identified five key ways to save around £604 just by changing your kitchen routine. These include:
Using more energy efficient appliances – as shown above you can save up to £287
Batch cook where possible – saves £158
Using the right sized pan with lid – saves £72
Simmer rather than boil – saves £68
Don’t overfill your kettle – saves £19
Utilita are also running a national education programme, putting on thousands of free workshops to showcase fifteen ways you can cut your energy bills by hundreds of pounds each year. These workshops will be run in partnership with Iceland as part of their Shop Smart, Cook Savvy campaign.
