Replacing a shower head is a simple DIY project that can be completed in just a few minutes. Not only is it easy to do, but it can also give your bathroom a fresh new look and improve the overall shower experience. You can also look for more efficient shower heads to improve your water usage and bring down your costs. In this post, we will go through the step-by-step process of how to replace a shower head, including what tools you will need and how to test for leaks.

Step 1: Turn off the water supply

The first step in replacing your shower head is to turn off the water supply to the shower. This can usually be done by locating the valve or knob and turning it clockwise. This will prevent any water from flowing through the pipes while you are working on the shower head.

Step 2: Remove the old shower head

Once the water supply is turned off, use a pair of adjustable pliers to remove the old shower head by turning it counter clockwise. Be careful not to damage the pipe or the finish on the shower head. If the shower head is stuck, try using a penetrating oil to loosen it up before attempting to remove it.

Step 3: Clean the pipe threads

Before installing the new shower head, it is important to clean the pipe threads to remove any debris or build-up. This can be done with a wire brush.

Step 4: Apply Teflon tape

To prevent leaks, apply Teflon tape to the pipe threads, wrapping it in a clockwise direction. This will create a seal between the pipe and the new shower head.

Step 5: Install the new shower head

Take the new shower head and align it with the pipe. Screw it on by turning it clockwise, making sure it is tight and secure.

Step 6: Turn on the water supply and test for leaks

Once the new shower head is installed, turn the water supply back on and test the new shower head for any leaks. If there are no leaks, you have successfully installed your new shower head!
